From 1948 to 1966, the State of Israel kept its Palestinian citizens under Military Rule, which functioned as a state within a state of sorts, with Arab citizens subjected to different rules, obligations and orders than the Jewish majority.
The Military Rule’s secret objectives can be gleaned from hundreds of pages of government investigation committee transcripts that have been declassified in recent years at the request of Akevot Institute: landgrab, control, surveillance and segregation. The witnesses were played by members of Israeli left-wing organization Matzpen, who played a key role in the fight for the abolition of the Military Rule.
