Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced during and after the 1948 war. Some were uprooted two or three times. This was the predicament of two residents of Qadita, a village near Safed. At the beginning of the war, the two were forced to move to Jish under pressure from Qawuqji’s army and after being accused of collaborating with the Jews. After the Galilee was captured by the IDF, they were transferred to Biram and later to Akbara. When the two asked to return to their village, the military governor of the Galilee told them it was “currently out of the question”
