Maps printed in Israel today show no trace of the Green Line – the line agreed upon in the armistice talks following the war in 1949, and which separates the sovereign territory of the State of Israel from the territories occupied in June 1967. The disappearance of the Green Line from the maps of the State of Israel is not coincidental. It is the result of decisions made by the Israeli government during the first months following the 1967 occupation, decisions that were classified as top secret and remained sealed for many years. Thus, the map of the state became a powerful political tool, preventing the Israeli public from engaging in a public political discourse about the future of the Occupied Territories.
