The practice of taking over Palestinian land on security pretexts and then building Israeli settlements on it is familiar mostly from the West Bank. A short document demonstrates how Israel used the same method in the Sinai Desert as well.
In this cable, the two deputy general directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs apprise the ministry’s missions abroad of the issuance of seizure orders, on security grounds, for a large area in the northern Sinai, and plans to expel 500 Bedouin families from it. At the same time, they clarify that the true reason for the seizure has nothing to do with security.
